The Only Way To Do Great [Cooking] Is To Love What You Do.
Do you know the original quote?
“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” Steve Jobs
I do believe it is fundamental to love what you do. I heard many people saying they’re not good at cooking, and I always thought it is probably because they don’t try hard enough or because they just don’t like it.
But what if you’re not good at what you’re doing? Can you still love it? I used to love making clothes, I wanted to be a fashion designer, but at some point I felt like I wasn’t good enough. I also realised I didn’t have enough money and wasn’t ready to risk everything and live a poor life and kiss asses to be noticed, but that’s another story.
Why do you love what you do first of all? Genuine passion? Excitement? Or also because you believe you’re good at it?
I don’t think I do great cooking, or sometimes maybe :) , but I love it.
I love cooking because it gives me the opportunity to be creative. I’m creative because I don’t want to eat always the same meals or when I don’t want to waste food that is about to go off. You have to cook everyday, at least twice (unless you buy ready-to-eat food or someone else cook for you) so cooking can be pretty boring. Unless you get creative.
I also love experimenting. I must have been a witch in some previous life because there’s nothing more satisfying than cooking something without recipe, adding a bit of this, a bit of that, tasting, adjusting and coming up with a delicious dish.
What is it that you love to do? If you love cooking, what is it that you enjoy most in cooking?
