My Lobster is almost 6 months and he has been tasting a few things now: pieces of fruit and vegetables mainly. The other day I wanted to try a “whole nutritive meal”. This red lentil, carrot and cherry tomato pureed soup seemed perfect for a start. And it was delicious, but I’ll tell you at the end of this post how it really went…
Positive: A good source of iron, fiber and protein (in red lentils) and vitamins (carrots and cherry tomatoes). Not only for baby! Plus if you add olive oil (antioxidants and healthy fats) and grated parmesan cheese (protein and calcium) you make a very healthy meal.
Negative: not the fastest meal but not so long either.
Ingredients for 2 (adults):
- 200 g dry red lentils
- 5/6 cherry tomatoes
- 1 carrot
In your pantry:
- evo oil
- optional: garlic, parsley
Put red lentils in a large bowl full of water for 15-20 minutes.
In the meantime, wash cherry tomatoes, peel the carrot and cut vegetables in small pieces.
In a large pan or wok, heat some evo oil (with a garlic clove if you like) and add tomatoes and carrots. Cook a few minutes on medium heat.
Drain lentils and add them to the pan. Stir 2 minutes on med heat to develop flavours. Pour about 1 and 1/2 glass of water (you can also add some fresh parsley here), cover and allow to cook on low heat for 20 minutes.
Uncover and pour another glass of water. Cook for another 10 minutes.
Blend and allow to cool before to give to baby. Add some grated parmesan cheese for a complete meal.
My advice: I put a portion for my Lobster apart, then added a spoon of powdered beef broth to ours, so the whole family could enjoy it.
Now. How it really went:
My lobster ate about the spoon you see in the picture and that was it. Not that I expected him to eat the whole plate, but because I cooked (not just a courgette stick this time) it was a bit frustrating. I do think he liked it but probably it wasn’t the right time. So I’ll try it again later.
